If you're new to Twitter, here are some tips:
- Go to www.twitter.com
and hit the Get Started - Join button. Enter your name, email address and a password and then press Create my account. - To post a message, log in and the text box will open where you can type messages up to 140 characters long. Press update to post your latest missive to your followers, who will then see your message.
- When someone replies to your posting, their name will be displayed in the @name format.
- When you reply, it will be shown on your Twitter page as @yourname. For example, if you'd like to send us a reply type @CancerVoicesSA and then your message, which is known as a tweet.
- The panel on the right hand side of the Twitter page shows the tools that are available.
- Home shows recent tweets from other users that you're following.
- @Replies shows the responses others have made to your tweets. Direct messages shows messages that are only sent to you. Favorites is where you can save particular messages.
- If you see the letters RT, it means 'retweet' and someone is forwarding an original posting so that it can be read again. You may also see # in front of a word - this helps identify your tweet in a search.
