COVID-19, suspension of Cancer Voices group activities

Dear Cancer Voices Members and Supporters

Cancer Voices SA are continuing to advocate for the needs of cancer survivors, their carers and supporters.  We are aware of the vulnerability of cancer survivors currently having treatment and those who are vulnerable due to their history of cancer treatment in the context of the COVID-19.

We are living in very challenging times and we feel deeply for everyone affected by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).  Whilst there is uncertainty about what is ahead of us there are recommended safety measures we can take to reduce the risks we face including:

  • Staying at home
  • Maintaining social distancing
  • Avoiding large gatherings
  • Maintaining good hand hygiene
  • Avoiding touching our faces
  • Avoiding unnecessary travel and no overseas travel
  • Avoiding unnecessary visits with elderly relatives
  • Listening only to trusted information sources
  • Staying calm

In response to the COVID-19 CVSA has decided suspend our wellness and education programs until further notice.  This includes our Survivors as Teachers Program, our Tuesday Walking for Wellness Group, our Friday Research Walking Group and our Sunday Cycling Group.

We hope that individually people will still exercise by walking or cycling as staying fit is important to keep the immune system tuned.

Information about the virus changes rapidly and we need to protect ourselves by following instructions from authorised sources.  We suggest you contact your health professionals if you have any concerns
