Our Programs and Initiatives
Cancer Voices SA is a volunteer-based advocacy organisation dedicated to representing the voices of people affected by cancer. We work to improve the cancer experience through education, community engagement, policy influence, and research partnerships.
Through our programs and advocacy efforts, we strive to make the cancer journey better by ensuring that the perspectives of those with lived experience shape health services, research, and public policy.
🔹 Survivors as Teachers
We bring people with lived experience of cancer into medical and health education settings to share their personal stories. This helps future healthcare professionals understand the real-life impact of cancer beyond medical treatment.

🔹 Community & Peer Support
We create opportunities for people affected by cancer to connect, support each other, and share their experiences:
- Cycling Group – A friendly group of cyclists meeting weekly to ride and socialise. Learn more → here.
- Walking Group – Walks in nature and the city, open to all fitness levels. Learn more → here.
🔹 Health System Advocacy
We listen to the stories of people affected by cancer and work to improve cancer care services by:
- Participating in health policy and strategy committees
- Submitting recommendations to government reviews
- Engaging with hospitals and health services to advocate for patient-centered care

🔹 Partnering with Researchers
We collaborate with cancer researchers to ensure that research projects include the voices and perspectives of those with lived experience. Cancer Voices SA helps match consumer representatives with research teams and supports the involvement of cancer survivors in shaping meaningful studies.
