Executive Team
Cancer Voices SA is led by an elected, volunteer Chair with an Executive Team of up to 10 active members who are in frequent communication via email, in addition to our Executive Team meetings. Election of the Executive Team usually occurs at our AGM in November, although illness of key members has, on occasion, forced this to be delayed.
Karen joined the Cancer Voices executive team in 2016 following an intensive journey through melanoma diagnosis and treatment.
Shona Edwards is an enthusiastic advocate for youth cancer and disability equity in higher education.
Shona has been a student leader, peer facilitator and community organiser in universities and in the health sector. Shona provides representation that is compassionate, conscientious, and informed at all times by the value of lived experience and peer support.
Shona currently coordinates the Survivors as Teachers program.
Daniel is a qualified Chiropractor and healthcare researcher currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the University of South Australia.
Agnes is a drug information pharmacist who has been working as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of South Australia for the last 10 years. She has a strong research interest in the quality use of medicines, quality of medicine information for health professionals and consumers, medicines policy and regulation.
In 2003, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was the start of a survivorship journey where her professional interests and her health activist involvement helped her to understand the new challenges of living with cancer.
In 2009, she began to collaborate with Cancer Voices SA to encourage and support the recognition of the experiences and views of cancer patients, their carers and supporters and to promote their participation in all aspects of cancer health care and research.
Con is a renal cancer survivor, and keen cyclist, managing the Cancer Voices cycling group.
Eric’s expertise is eHealth and he is a core member of the Consumers eHealth Alliance (http://ceha.org.au/ ).
His cancer experience comes from caring for his wife and his mother through several episodes of cancer diagnoses and treatments.
Thomas joined CVSA
Julie is renowned across Australia for her warmth, humour, intelligence and commitment to social justice. After 20 years as a broadcaster with ABC Radio, ABC TV and Network 10, she is now a freelance journalist, trainer, speaker and facilitator – both in person and virtually as a webinar host.
Julie has built a reputation for getting people talking with a clear focus and achieving positive results. In the COVID-19 era, Julie facilitates many conversations via on-line events, podcasts & videos.
Past Chairs
Vikki joined Cancer Voices in 2018 and became Chair in early 2021, serving for 2 years.
Chris was a multiple time’s peritoneal cancer survivor. She joined the Executive Team in 2013 after hearing about Cancer Voices SA at the 2013 Survivorship Conference.
Chris skillfully guided us through our Strategic Plan 2015-2020 process, and established the Cancer Voices Walking Group in June 2015.
She represented the consumer voice on a number of committees and projects including the SA Statewide Survivorship Framework, and Return to Work after Cancer .
Chris was elected as Chair in Dec 2016, but sadly, passed away in 2020. Read our tribute to Chris.

Cancer Voices SA is forever indebted to the groundbreaking advocacy work of Ashleigh Moore OAM who founded Cancer Voices SA in 2007, but sadly passed away in Feb 2014. Read our tribute to Ashleigh.
Cancer Voices SA is an active member of Cancer Voices Australia and the Australian Cancer Consumer Network.
We work closely with our sister organisation Cancer Voices NSW.
We are also members of Consumers Health Forum of Australia (and were members of Health Consumers Alliance SA until it ran out of funding in Sept 2020).
