Executive Team
Cancer Voices SA is led by an elected, volunteer Chair with an Executive Team of up to 10 active members who are in frequent communication via email, in addition to our Executive Team meetings. Election of the Executive Team usually occurs at our AGM in November, although illness of key members has, on occasion, forced this to be delayed.
Daniel is a qualified Chiropractor and healthcare researcher currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the University of South Australia.
Thomas Binns began his cancer advocacy work, 2012, in the youth cancer space while going through his treatment at the age of fifteen, advocating for such projects as the Sony YouCan Centre while being Deputy Chair on the Youth Cancer Service Youth Advisory Group.
Thomas has since expanded to various corners of cancer advocacy in South Australia and beyond. He directed a music video for Canteen Australia with other youth cancer advocates about a puppet on their own cancer journey. He is also on the Cancer Voices SA Executive Team since 2024, and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) Cancer Consumer Group – where he contributed to such projects as the Care Connect Notebook.
Karen joined the Cancer Voices executive team in 2016 following an intensive journey through melanoma diagnosis and treatment.
Shona Edwards is an enthusiastic advocate for youth cancer and disability equity in higher education.
Shona has been a student leader, peer facilitator and community organiser in universities and in the health sector. Shona provides representation that is compassionate, conscientious, and informed at all times by the value of lived experience and peer support.
Shona currently coordinates the Survivors as Teachers program.
Con is a renal cancer survivor, and keen cyclist, managing the Cancer Voices cycling group.
Julie McCrossin was treated for stage four, HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer (tonsils, tongue and throat) in 2013. Julie has a media background on ABC Radio National, ABC TV. & Network 10. Since her cancer diagnosis, Julie has presented a range of educational videos in partnership with cancer clinicians and advocates. These video series include Talking To Doctors for Cancer Voices SA; the Head and Neck Cancer Video Series 2020/2021 with St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre; and How Can We Improve the Patient and Family Experience of Radiation Therapy? in 2020/2021 with SAHMRI, the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. Julie has qualifications in the arts, education and law.
Diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 17, I’ve carried a deep sense of purpose ever since to improve the lives of others facing cancer. Over the years, I’ve been actively involved in Canteen and Youth Cancer advocacy at both state and national levels across Australia. Through my work with Canteen, I’ve had the privilege of traveling the world to speak about the importance of youth cancer support, and I remain deeply passionate about the AYA (adolescent and young adult) cancer space.
Today, I continue to serve as a consumer representative on various advisory groups—ranging from health system committees to research grants and academic publications. I hold a special interest in survivorship, with a focus on fertility, late effects, and the long-term challenges people face after treatment.
Cancer has taken a lot from me—but it has given me so much more in terms of purpose and perspective in life.
Graham Lewis is a blood cancer survivor and allogenic stem cell transplant recipient, with lived experience spanning diagnosis, treatment, long-term survivorship, disability, and the ongoing impacts on family and carers.
Graham has supported Cancer Voices SA Survivors as Teachers Program as a presenter since 2021.
Graham has also contributed to consumer advocacy at local, state and national levels across clinical education, service improvement, research, policy development and public awareness initiatives related to blood cancer and stem cell transplantation.
Eric’s expertise is in Digital Health and for many years was a core member of the national Consumers eHealth Alliance.
His cancer experience comes from caring for his wife and his mother through several episodes of cancer diagnoses and treatments.
Past Chairs
Karen joined the Cancer Voices executive team in 2016 following an intensive journey through melanoma diagnosis and treatment.
Vikki joined Cancer Voices in 2018 and became Chair in early 2021, serving for 2 years.
Chris was a multiple time’s peritoneal cancer survivor. She joined the Executive Team in 2013 after hearing about Cancer Voices SA at the 2013 Survivorship Conference.
Chris skillfully guided us through our Strategic Plan 2015-2020 process, and established the Cancer Voices Walking Group in June 2015.
She represented the consumer voice on a number of committees and projects including the SA Statewide Survivorship Framework, and Return to Work after Cancer .
Chris was elected as Chair in Dec 2016, but sadly, passed away in 2020. Read our tribute to Chris.
Julie joined the Cancer Voices South Australia (SA) Executive Team in 2007, became Deputy Chair in 2009 2014, Chair 2014 – Dec 2016, Deputy Chair 2017-2021. Julie continues as a member of the Executive Team.
Cancer Voices SA is forever indebted to the groundbreaking advocacy work of Ashleigh Moore OAM who founded Cancer Voices SA in 2007, but sadly passed away in Feb 2014. Read our tribute to Ashleigh.
Cancer Voices SA is an active member of Cancer Voices Australia and the Australian Cancer Consumer Network.
We work closely with our sister organisation Cancer Voices NSW.
We are also members of Consumers Health Forum of Australia (and were members of Health Consumers Alliance SA until it ran out of funding in Sept 2020).
